After falling to the Blue Jays yesterday in Clearwater, the Phillies (9-9-2) head to Fort Myers for a 1:05pm matchup with the Red Sox (9-8-1) this afternoon. The Phils and Sox met one week ago, with the Phillies earning a convincing 11-4 victory. Today, Jerome Williams returns for the first time since tweaking his hamstring while the Red Sox will look to Steven Wright. On another note, Phillies got some upsetting news this morning on left-hander Mario Hollands. After getting an MRI on his elbow, it revealed a tear of his common flexor tendon, the same injury that has sidelined Cliff Lee. Phillies.com's Todd Zolecki tweets that the team doctor will take a look at the MRI to see what the plan is moving forward.
With the the back end of the rotation still up in the air, Jerome Williams looks to put together a solid outing today after being scratched from his last start due to a hamstring tweak he experienced while jogging last week. If Williams suffers no setbacks, he'll likely fall into the number four spot in the rotation behind Cole Hamels, Aaron Harang and David Buchanan. This spring, Williams has appeared in three games for the Phillies, allowing three runs on seven hits over eight innings. He pitched last on March 12th against the Tigers, giving up two runs on four hits in three innings. Manager Ryne Sandberg is testing out Ben Revere in left for a second straight day with Odubel Herrera starting in center again.
The Red Sox will send right-hander Steven Wright to the mound to face the Phillies. Last season for Boston, Wright posted a 2.57 ERA in 21 innings. So far this spring, Wright has tossed six innings and given up three runs, two earned, on six hits. His last outing came against the Mets on the 16th, throwing three scorless innings in relief.
