With an Injured Calf, Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins Likely Calls it a Season
Looks like we probably can add Jimmy Rollins to the list of players done for the season.
According to Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News, Rollins is "likely" done for the season with an injured right calf. On Monday night, Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Rollins thought that he might be done for the season.
With the Phillies out of playing contention, there is no sense of urgency to play every player. I surmise that Rollins likely will not start again, and most likely not play defense. I suppose he could pinch hit if they were really stuck, but the Phillies should have enough position players to fill out a roster with Pete Orr and Michael Martinez available.
Even though the division is clinched, don't expect the Washington Nationals to take their foot off of the accelerator. They are currently tied with the Cincinnati Reds for the best record in the National League. Home field advantage will go a long way if the Nationals can finish with the best record.
Position players Ryan Howard, Placido Polanco, and Brian Schneider are all done for the season.
