WJC Report: 3 Flyers eliminated from quarterfinals

Canada's bid for a second-consecutive gold medal and sixth in 10 years fell short on Saturday, meaning that Travis Sanheim and Travis Konecny will return to Calgary and Ottawa without gold medals. With the Czech Republic's 7-0 whitewashing at the hands of Team USA, David Kase will go home medal-less as well. Four Flyers — Oskar Lindblom, Felix Sandstrom, Radel Fazleev and Ivan Provorov — remain.

Canada

Team Canada jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, with Konecny striking first at 5:21. Sanheim also assisted on a power-play goal at 3:14 of the third period that tied the game at 4, but ultimately, Finland outlasted the Canadians by a 6-5 margin. Konecny's tournament ends with a goal and an assist, while Sanheim's assist on Saturday was his only point in the tournament.

Czech Republic

The Czech Republic looked like a team that flat-out did not belong on the same ice surface as the USA in their whitewashing. Kase, the Flyers' fifth-round draft choice in 2015, finished with a goal, assist and a plus-1 rating.

Sweden

Lindblom scored Sweden's second goal in their 6-0 thrashing of Slovakia. His third goal of the tournament ties him with Adrian Kempe for second-most on the team. Sandstrom was idle in the win. Tre Kronor will next face host Finland in the semifinal on Monday.

Russia

Provorov added a pair of assists for Russia in their thrilling 4-3 overtime win over Denmark, and set Vladislav Kamenev up for the overtime winner. Fazleev added one assist as well, on a goal that tied the game at 2 at 12:30 of the third period. Russia now goes on to face Team USA in Monday's quarterfinal.
