In the final game of this four-game series in San Diego, Roy Halladay took the mound against Wade "don't call me Matt" LeBlanc.
This game appeared to be a pitcher's duel through the first five innings; LeBlanc only allowed two hits, and struck out two, while Doc only allowed two hits, but struck out six.
However, Doc would not let LeBlanc win this duel. With the help of the Phillies' offense, Doc soon had a comfy 2-0 lead, which started off with J-Roll and Howard hitting back to back singles, then Ben Francisco with an RBI single. John Mayberry crushed an RBI double to score Ryan Howard.
In the seventh inning, Shane Victorino led it off with an inside-the-park home run, no big deal. 3-0 Phillies. Roy Halladay continued to deal through the seventh and eighth innings. He struck out the side in the seventh, and struck out two more in the eighth to bring his grand total to fourteen.
Doc came in for the ninth to finish what he started, but things didn't go so swiftly. He allowed three hits and a run to score, which ruined the shutout. At 130 pitches, Charlie Manuel took him out and brought in Antonio Bastardo who only needed to throw one pitch to end the game. The Phillies won 3-1 and swept the San Diego Padres in four games.
