Fans have seemingly begged for months, even years for Rubén Amaro Jr.'s head. Claims of terrible trades and franchise-hindering free agent signings have lead to many wanting Amaro out of his current role as the Phillies' General Manager. However, no one had really stopped to ask just where Amaro may end up should he leave his current position. Well, according to Page Six magazine, we may have an answer. The article, written to discuss the possibility of Disney CEO and Chairman Bob Iger taking Bud Selig's place when he retires at the end of this season. Should he not be the choice, Emily Smith and Ian Mohr write, a few other key candidates have stood out:
Other potential candidates include MLB execs such as COO Rob Manfred as well as Dodgers owner Stan Kasten and Phillies GM Rubén Amaro Jr.
Woah.
Amaro played parts of seven seasons in the major leagues, making stops in California, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Philadelphia once more to wrap up his career. His father, Rubén Amaro Sr., played about eleven seasons, six of which came with the Phillies. Amaro Jr. took over Pat Gillick's role as GM following the 2008 championship season. To say that Rubén has been around baseball all his life is an understatement. Could that translate into Amaro becoming the most powerful man in baseball? If so, some MLB employees may be in for some long term, overpriced contracts (kidding, maybe).
