Zach Eflin’s dominance earns him Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors

Earlier today, we took a look at the Phillies top 10 prospects and how they've been performing after the first full week of play. One of the many standouts on the list is number five prospect, Zach Eflin, who the Phillies acquired in the deal that sent Jimmy Rollins to the Dodgers. The 21-year-old right-hander was rewarded for his early successes today, earning himself the honor of Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week covering April 9th-19th. Check out Eflin's impressive stats after two stats in the chart below:

Eflin was one of the pitchers we got to see on the big league stage in spring training and could potentially be a part of a young, talented Phillies rotation in a few years. Eflin is joined by Aaron Nola, Tom Windle and Ben Lively in Double-A Reading, all of whom have hopes of earning a spot in the Phillies future pitching plans.

In his first start of the season for Reading, Eflin shut down the Portland Sea Dogs over six shutout innings, striking out two and walking one. His last start was even more impressive as Eflin dominated the Double-A Giants affiliate with eight scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five. Keep in mind, this is Eflin's first stint in Double-A and he is off to a great start, spinning 14 shutout innings. Through those two starts, opposing hitters are averaging just .143 against him.
