The Lehigh Valley Phantoms finally got their season against the Hershey Bears on Feb. 6, while the NCAA returned to play after a string of postponed matches. Let’s recap in this week’s Flyers Prospect Corner.
The Lehigh Valley Phantoms released their 25-man roster for training camp this past Monday. The Phantoms were scheduled to face off against the Binghamton Devils on Jan. 29, and then against the Hershey Bears on Jan. 31, but both games were postponed to maintain the health and safety of players, coaches, and other game day personnel.
In this week’s Flyers Prospect Corner, three prospects are joining the Phantoms roster and it was a big week for college prospects.
At Flyers training camp this year, 13 prospects had the opportunity to practice and scrimmage with the senior players. Morgan Frost, a 27th overall pick in 2017, was the only member of that group to make the final roster. So where will all of the other prospects be playing? It’s been over 650 days since Nolan Patrick played in a game. With Chuck Fletcher, Alain Vigneault and Flyers teammates all sounding hopeful to get Patrick back for this season, his condition will still require careful monitoring and expectations for his on-ice performance should be curbed.
The Flyers have had some good success in recent years drafting defensemen, from Ivan Provorov and Travis Sanheim to recent picks on the rise like Cam York. One defenseman picked in the 2020 NHL Draft should also be getting some more attention as he puts together a strong season in the Swedish Elite League.

The NHL may be expanding rosters to a maximum of 29 available players with four to six on a “taxi squad.” With the expanded rosters, there are a number of Flyers prospects that could get a new opportunity to make the team.
